Wally’s Gardening Guide
Wally Richards
What a little gem this is. If you’re my type of gardener – one who doesn’t know his diatomaceous earth from his dolomite – this book is an absolute must. And if you’re already gloriously green-fingered, it will serve as handy resource to quick reference for unexpected queries or problems.
I’ve discovered that gardening is a little like parenting. Newcomers to the endeavour are flooded with advice from all quarters, sufficient usually to addle the mind and prompt some sort of paralysis in terms of the fingers. There exists, an assumption that the human species must know how to grow plants – knowledge by osmosis, you might say. After all, croon lofty non-gardeners, plants grow free and wild as part of life’s great cycle, don’t they? As, we sigh. How far from reality is that!
So, here at last is a book which happily proffers a steaming mound of advice, easily understood by all gardeners – L-plate or otherwise. As one of the former, who once boasted more horticultural failures than successes, I’ve been completely won over by Wally RIchards’s user-friendly approach. He’ll tell you only what you need to know, when you need to know it. There’ll be no confusing floral-speak here, no unwanted weeks in this bed of information. It’s inspired me to look over fences everywhere, and almost instantly know exactly what Wally-ism to apply.
